The Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi is almost impossible to translate. But aspects of it have relevance and resonance with our lives in the West.

Among these are an embrace - even celebration - of the beauty of imperfection; the acknowledge that everything has a season; the search for quiet beauty - beauty that has to be looked for; an element of the unexpected; and an appeal to all the senses - smell, sound, touch and taste as well as the visual.

And this project is also about gardens that are places for serenity and contemplation, not loud and obvious.
