The Digital Economy Bill (DEB), currently fighting its way through Parliament against vociferous opposition, is bad news for everyone.
This ill-conceived legislation, based on fundamental misinterpretations of how the creative world works, could end up killing any chance of making a living as a professional photographer.
And while the freetards, who believe that everything on the internet should be available for nothing, will be rubbing their greedy little hands at the prospect, there's bad news for them, too. And no, it's not the much-hyped threat to cut off filesharers. The DEB includes proposed 'orphan works' provisions that have failed, in somewhat spectacular fashion, to take account of the international nature of the net-connected world.
